High Fructose Corn Syrup Commercials

If you haven’t seen the high fructose corn syrup commercials, you have to check these out. The original is a real commercial telling us that high fructose corn syrup is really not that bad. I mean, it is “natural” after all!! But then check out the Saturday Night Live response commercial. Bravo SNL. Bravo.

The original commercial: Surprise, surprise, they’re no longer allowing people to embed this commercial into websites. So you’ll have to check it out on YouTube while it’s still up. Click here.

The SNL spoof (sit through the short commercial first):

The Town of Allopath

As a follow up to my seminar last week, check out this video. It’s a bit corny, but a pretty accurate description of how we’ve gotten to where we are regarding our health care system and pharmaceutical companies. I don’t deny that medicine has it’s place and has done great things. But it’s an allopathic approach. We’re chasing after symptoms. The underlying problems are still there!! And until you deal with those, something else is bound to manifest. We’re not supposed to have diseases and disorders. We’re not supposed to be taking medications for the rest of our lives. We’re not supposed to have headaches, insomnia, fatigue or hot flashes. If you’re sick of all that and are truly committed to change, come talk to me!! I will put the description of my nutritional services on the website very soon, I promise.

Volunteer for an Adventure Race

It’s early in the season and your bike legs just aren’t underneath you yet. But the first Big Blue Adventure Race is this weekend!! What to do?! If you’ve been missing the amazing adventure race atmosphere, but just aren’t up for your first race yet, this is the perfect opportunity to volunteer. Carolyn and crew will be heading up to Folsom Lake on Saturday to volunteer. If you’re new to adventure racing, this is a great way to find out more about it. To learn more about the race, click here.

If you’d like to go, plan on meeting the group in the Kohl’s parking lot (off 680 in Pleasant Hill) around 8:30-9am this Saturday (Apr. 23). Contact Carolyn via email for the specifics as we get closer to the weekend: carolyn@crossfitadventure.com.

**As an added bonus, any CrossFit Adventure member that volunteers will earn a FREE entry into an upcoming Big Blue Adventure race**

What Are You Doing?

Well, what are you doing? It seems like such an innocuous question, doesn’t it? But if you really stop to ask yourself that question, it can mean so much more. Many of us go through life doing the same thing over and over again. Wake up, work out, go to work, come home and eat while watching TV. It’s a good night if your favorite sports team is on or if your favorite celebrity has made it through to the next round of Dancing With The Stars. But are you doing what you truly want to be doing? Have you accomplished the goals you set for yourself? Have you even set any goals for yourself?
If the answer to all three of those questions is ‘no’, then what’s the point? How can you possibly be happy if you have no purpose? You all know the quote from Shawshank Redemption: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

Grocery Shopping Mistakes

Gotta love English humor.

Believe it or not, I recently got today’s little nugget of information from a recent USA Today article. It’s not my usual source of health information, but this one is pretty good. However, if you do your detective work, you’ll see which grocery shopping mistake I omitted. And yes, it was deliberate. On to the list of common mistakes consumers make while grocery shopping:

1. Shopping without a list Preparing a list ahead of time keeps you focused on the healthiest food choices, helps you resist impule buying, and saves time.

2. Forgetting to shop the store’s perimeter The outermost edge of the supermarket contains the healthier, non-processed foods.

3. Skimping on vegetables You should be getting the majority of your carbohydrate intake from vegetables and a little fruit.

4. Ignoring the nutrition label In an ideal world, we would buy nothing but foods that do not have a nutrition label (meaning they’re whole and unprocessed). However, it’s not an ideal world. So read the label and know what you’re putting in your mouth!!

And I’d like to add a fifth one to the list:

5. Going to the supermarket when you’re hungry Avoid impulse buying by always making sure you’re not hungry when grocery shopping – otherwise the whole store ends up in your shopping cart. And it won’t be the healthiest foods either.
