What Your Poo Tells About You

Patrick's poo is healthy. Is yours?!

My sister and her family recently got back from trips to Costa Rica, Phoenix, Vegas . . . I can’t keep track anymore!! As we all know, it’s difficult to eat as healthy as normal when you’re away from your home base. Upon return, my sister fed the kids healthy salads. After two days, my nephew (pictured) says “Thank you for giving me salad! I had a big BM! You should give me that stuff more often!!” More powerful words have never been spoken. In three simple sentences, my nephew summed up the key to health. It’s your poo!! Your poo is a window into your digestive health. And your digestive health is a window into your overall health.

From Health.msn.com:

“It may not be a topic typically talked about at the dinner table or a cocktail party, but most people are actually somewhat obsessed with it. And with good reason: The state of your gastro-intestinal tract (as well as the quality and quantity of its output) is a great barometer of the health of your body. ‘The GI tract is a processing unit that metabolizes all of the nutrients you take in and eliminates all of the body’s waste,’ explains Dr. Amy Foxx-Orenstein, president of the American College of Gastroenterology. ‘What comes through it is reflective of how well or how ill the body is.’”

More on this topic in the upcoming weeks (including the Poopie Police lineup that’s found it’s way into our bathroom). For now, check your poo and watch this video from Scrubs:

UNcomfort Zone

Can you remember the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone? Doing something different from your same old, same old. Now think about how you felt AFTER doing what you did. Chances are you were flying high. Stepping out of our comfort zone and experiencing new things can be, well, uncomfortable. But, more often than not, it leads to something positive.
At CrossFit Adventure, we’ve got a lot of things on the horizon that will force you out of your comfort zone. We just had a day of handstand pushups. Being upside down is NOT a comfortable thing for many people. I was AMAZED at how many people stepped out of their comfort zone to, at the very least, try being upside down (and I’m amazed that you all trusted me!!). The picture is of Nickie holding her handstand for at least 10 seconds while I got my camera. Way to go Nickie!! I have been extraordinarily impressed with Nickie these past few months. She has really pushed herself and is getting either a PR or trying something new nearly every time she walks into our gym.
Try something new. You’ll be scared, but you won’t ever regret it. Imagine how good you’ll feel after doing it. This weekend is a great opportunity with the Fran Off at CrossFit 707. I can’t wait to share your Adventures!!

Low-Key Fran-Off This Saturday

For those of you that came to Femme Fit this past Saturday and caught the competition bug, your chance to cure the fever is coming sooner than you think!! This Saturday, CrossFit 707 in Benecia will be hosting a low-key Fran-Off. From the CrossFit 707 site: “We will have heats to keep things organized, but any level CrossFitter can join in the fun, and scaling is available. There are no rewards, other than bragging rights, and class is FREE to all.  So, we hope y’all will come join us and either get a PR on your time, go Rx for your first time, or even play with Fran for you very first time with us!”

So no excuses folks!! Scaling is available – use less weight for the thrusters and use bands for the pullups. What a perfect way to introduce yourself to the CrossFit competition atmosphere.

The event will be held from 9:30am – 11am with an optional brunch afterwards. I’ll be making my way over around 9am if anyone wants a ride. CrossFit 707 is located at  4856 East Second Street, Benicia, CA.

*Carolyn will be leading the normal 9:30am class Saturday morning at our box.

*A reminder that the 12:30pm class on Friday, August 19 is cancelled.

The Killer Kage

I don’t know about you guys, but watching the CrossFit Games online a couple of weekends ago couldn’t have been more motivating. When I participated in the Sectionals last year, that was a big wake-up call. There were a LOT of people that were in better shape than I was. If I had any chance of competing alongside them in the future, I would have to get my ass in gear. I committed to my workouts and saw my numbers increase quickly.

But we, as humans, go through cycles. I lost my motivation and put my focus and energy elsewhere (namely in building CrossFit Adventure as well as my Lifestyle Program/seminars/etc.). But the Games reenergized me. This video is of the third workout of the day for these guys on the second day of the Games: 3 Rounds: 225 pound front squat (7 reps), 700m Bike, 100 ft. monkey bar traverse. Watch this and try not to be motivated. Just try. What a finish!!
