For the past few weeks, we’ve been more cognizant with our stretching and rolling. The Mobility WODs that have been coming before and after workouts are from Kelly Starrett’s website: MobilityWOD.com. I encourage all of you to take a peak and do one of the Mobility WODs each and every day – whether you’re at our gym or not. We will continue to provide a MobilityWOD each day that we have time. Currently, we are using one per week so you will have several opportunities to do the same one. This is a good thing!! Continue to practice the WODs from previous weeks as well. To make it easier, I will get in the habit of posting the Mobility WOD for the week. To revisit the videos, just click on the ‘MobilityWOD’ link at the bottom of the post. Or Search for MobilityWOD at the top of the sidebar.
With events like Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, and the GORUCK challenge gaining in popularity, CrossFit Adventure is all about getting outside and training!! Especially with the Adventure Racing season upon us early 2012. One of the best ways to train for the challenges is running up and down a bunch of hills. One of the best ways to train for Adventure Racing is learning to navigate. It’s time to nail two birds with one stone.
Get Lost!! is having an orienteering event down in Henry Coe State Park (near Gilroy). For us newbies, it’s a 4-hour event. This is the PERFECT opportunity for you to become introduced to navigation. Nathan, Carolyn, and Doug who are seasoned orienteering veterans (LOL, yeah right) will be down there with Dan and Chris doing our best to not Get Lost!!
From Get Lost!!’s website:
“Gather a team of 2 to 5 adventurers. (Solo is okay on the 4 hour course.) We’ll give you 4, 8, or 24 hours to complete a course that no team can possibly finish. Prioritize and plan a good route to maximize your point scoring. Or just plan to have a grand adventure! You’ll be using a custom-made map with accurate elevation contours, trails, and vegetation coloring. Find up to 62 checkpoints—a compass is recommended to locate the ones off the trail.”
The navigation/orienteering is my favorite part of Adventure Racing. Let’s get a bunch of us down there to have some fun!!
Below is a video of last year’s event. More details of the event can be found here. FYI – prices go up on Tuesday so let’s figure out teams and sign up before then.
Although the men can benefit as well. We’re talking antiperspirants and aluminum folks. Your antiperspirant probably contains aluminum which is not a good thing if you’re trying to avoid breast cancer. Nor is it a good thing if you’re trying to avoid Alzheimer’s. Frankly, it’s not a good thing period.
I’ve always told women to avoid unnatural antiperspirants like the plague. What do women typically do before they put on antiperspirant/deodorant? They shave – opening up the pores under the arms. This creates an open passage to the lymph nodes and breast tissue. Not good to voluntarily put aluminum on after shaving the pits.
A few points from Mercola.com:
Women with breast cancer have higher levels of aluminum in their nipple aspirate fluid (NAF), a fluid present in the breast duct tree
Studies show aluminum from antiperspirants is deposited in breast tissue, and animal studies have also found that aluminum can cause cancer
Important breast-cancer prevention strategies include choosing natural personal care products, being aware of bra risk factors, limiting your fructose/sugar intake, exercising, and optimizing your vitamin D (through sun exposure) and animal-based omega-3 fat levels
Here is a link to the article. In a few days, I’ll write more about how mammograms are NOT recommended (I’m sure your doctor will have a fit about this one). If you just can’t wait, read the article.
After numerous requests, I will now be stocking Designs for Health Whey Cool Protein powder at CrossFit Adventure. Each tub will be available for $55 which is 20% off of retail. Yes, I have added a little to what I can get them for, but I don’t want to be in the supplement business. I was trying to avoid this but can’t have people buying the crap they’re currently getting. The protein will be available in Vanilla, Chocolate, and Unflavored (I recommend this one). Each tub contains 30 servings. Each serving has 24 grams of high quality protein and a whole host of beneficial ingredients (based on the fact that the cows are grass fed and the protein isolated with low heat methods). If you’d like them shipped to your door instead of picking them up at CFA, I’ll let you know how to order from Ultra Life, Inc. (slightly more expensive, but the added convenience of being shipped directly to you).
Regarding supplements, I recommend only two companies: Designs for Health and Ultra Life, Inc. If you would like supplements, I can direct you to the ones I recommend and how to get them. Again, I don’t want to be in the supplement business, but it’s gotten to the point that people are wasting their money on garbage – especially fish oil and multivitamins.
