I Get Married TODAY

Our CFA wedding shower

Today I get to marry the one person I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. I can’t believe how lucky I am. I am grateful each and every day. She really is the best thing that has happened to me. Yes, it’s cliche, but I think of our lives together up to this point and realize I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am now without her.

I am also so grateful that we get to share our lives together with our CrossFit Adventure family. You all have been so gracious and generous. We are lucky to have all of you as a part of our lives.

We hope you will all be able to celebrate with us at our reception on Saturday, January 26 so please keep the date open. We will most likely hold the reception at CFA.

CrossFit Saves Lives

Gary saved his own life by bear crawling away from this terrible accident

No Joke.

To see how CrossFit helped to save a life, read Gary Maldonado’s account below as part of his member spotlight:

Gary is one of our original members and initially trained with Nathan even before the garage days. He is a very hard working business owner, loyal family man, and has a fierce competitive drive. His story below describes his will to survive and he was on the brink of death when his car flipped over. He will tell his heroic story and at the end he will attest (as well as the doctors), that if he wasn’t as healthy as he was, there would have been no chance that he would survive such a horrific accident. Then he will tell you it was the CrossFit and those ‘damned bear crawls’ that saved his life!

He has had a long road to recovery and has overcome a tragic accident. But he came back fighting and beat the odds, both in his day-to-day routine and making his return to CrossFit Adventure this year. He still faces aches and pains but continues to be dedicated to regaining strength.

1. How long have you been at CFA?

I started in the Box. I’ve been with CFA from the very beginning.

2. What got you started with CrossFit?

My wife had been training with Nathan and he was teaching CrossFit.  She encouraged me to try it.

3. Do you remember your first WOD?

Describe it and how you felt. I don’t remember the name of my first WOD but I remember how I felt.  I felt sick and light headed!!!

4. When did you know something had to change before joining CFA?

My story is a little different because I had been working with Nathan prior to the creation of CFA and when he told me what he and Carolyn had planned I wanted to support them and I also had seen the difference in my own health from CrossFit.

5. Favorite CrossFit WOD and/or exercise.

Deadlifts are my favorite exercise.

6. Least favorite CrossFit WOD and/or exercise.

I do not enjoy double unders.

7. Describe your most memorable CrossFit experience.

My most memorable experience was my first experience.  I can’t remember the name of the WOD but I remember how I felt.  It was running and then a five rounds of five different exercises.  It was pure hell!  I think Nathan even felt bad for me. I didn’t complete the WOD because by the end of the second or third round the light started fading away and I decided to lay down before I fell down.  As Nathan placed a cold towel on my brow/forehead I became a spectator.  I watched Jeannett finish the WOD with the upmost respect for her and the CrossFit Adventure I had begun!

8. Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join CFA.

A year ago June I was involved in a hit and run, roll over automobile accident. By the looks of my truck I shouldn’t have survived. My arm was dislocated and broken in a couple of spots, one lung had been punctured from one of the ribs I had broken and I had to free myself from the truck. I then one handed bear crawled up an embankment to find help (Thank God for bear crawls). The distance from the truck to the road was about seventy feet. After walking for approximately forty five minutes I found a phone and help was on it’s way. The doctors in the trauma center were surprised that I survived and they credited my survival for the good shape I was in.  The doctors said that I was strong. I attribute my strength to the effective workouts that Crossfit provides.

9. Who inspires you most in the gym?

Michele Voos inspires me most at the gym. She never gives up and always finishes no matter what.

10. What advice can you give to those looking to “Dominate The Voice”?

Never give up!!  You will be surprise what the human spirit can accomplish!

The NorthStar crew before the grueling 11 mile trek up/around/over the mountain. In typical Tough Mudder fashion, they kept us all wet, muddy and physically challenged the entire time.

It was our first TM for the majority of the group and we were able to overcome several of our fears. ‘Walk the Plank’ (a platform at 15ft that you had to drop from, into freezing cold water), was no joke but we all survived! For the most part, the elevation didn’t seem to give our CFA members much of a challenge. There were moments when each of us COULD have thrown the towel in and given up but we had one thought going through our minds… Dominate the Voice Inside!

Great job to the NorthStar TM 2012 Team… Can I get a Hooo-Rahhh!!!
